a. Use Ask-Tell-Ask approach to giving information meaningfully - Ask about knowledge, feelings, emotions, reactions, beliefs and expectation - Tell the information clearly and concisely, in small chunks, avoid "doctor babble"
b. Use language patient can understand
c. User relevant information to enhance understanding
d. Use aids to enhance understanding (diagrams, models, printed material, community resources )
e. Encourage questions
